Ingredients
Hamburger Patties:
2 lbs. Steer Burger
1 package Lipton Onion Soup Mix
½ cup Panko bread crumbs, or a handful of crushed crackers
2 large eggs
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp black pepper
1-2 tsp seasoned salt, to taste
Beef tallow or olive oil, for cooking
Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Gravy:
¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ tsp browning seasoning (optional)
2½ cups beef broth
1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
2 small to medium onions, sliced
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp Cajun seasoning (optional)
1 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp butter, divided
1-2 tbsp ketchup (optional, for extra tang)
Mashed Potatoes:
6 small russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
1 cup warmed whole milk, divided
½ stick butter, melted
½ cup sour cream
1-2 tsp salt, to taste
Instructions:
Prepare the Hamburger Patties
In a large bowl, combine the Steer Burger, Lipton Onion Soup Mix, bread crumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, oregano, black pepper, and seasoned salt. Mix until well combined, but don’t overwork the meat. Divide into eight equal portions and shape them into round patties.Sear the Patties
Melt tallow or drizzle olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Transfer the cooked patties to a plate and set aside.Make the Gravy
In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms (if using) and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until softened. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well. Gradually add the beef broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, black pepper, browning seasoning (if using), and ketchup (optional). Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken. Add the remaining butter for a silky finish.Add the Patties Back
Return the seared patties to the skillet, coating them in the rich gravy. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let everything simmer for about 10 minutes until the patties are cooked through and the flavors meld.Make the Mashed Potatoes
While the patties simmer, boil the chopped potatoes in a pot of salted water until tender, about 10-15 minutes. Drain and return the potatoes to the pot. Mash the potatoes with melted butter, sour cream, and salt. Gradually add the warm milk, mashing until smooth and creamy.Serve
Plate the hamburger patties and spoon the gravy generously over the top. Serve with a side of mashed potatoes, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
